Talking Books With Shawn Mooney

Delighted to have been part of Shawn the Book Maniac’s Friday “broadcast.”

The interview begins at 2:40 but do listen to the introduction to Book Tubers, John and Sierra.

What a delight to be able to go “live” and talk about books I love.

  1. Just listened to your “mystery guest” interview, cuz. Bravo!!

You are so poised and well-spoken! What’s your secret ? Must be genetics, eh.

Was furiously jotting down recommendations to add to my length TBR list. With this brutal weather, we all need more books around – to read and use for insulation stacked against the outside walls as well. Our condo features many windows and no fireplace so we are walking around in layers of cozy clothing and swaddling ourselves in blankets when we plop down into an easy chair to read or watch TV.

Good luck with finding a publisher for your “elephant in the room” short story collection.

Your Aunt Edna’s spirit animal was/is the elephant – many, large and small, adorned shelves and tables in the Log House. Our daughter Kezia’s Instagram “sobriety influencer” account is called “The Sober Elephant Chronicles” because when she was still in the grips of alcohol I sent her an e-mail called “The Elephant in the Room.” This was almost four years ago when she had already met her American husband-to-be and she was still drinking. I had gone to Burlington to help her and our young grand-daughter pack up for the move to Pennsylvania and discovered the extent of her problem. In the e-mail I reminded her of her grandmother’s love and talked about how she could lose everything if she continued to drink. She had become very good at hiding the problem. At first she was upset with me, but after a cooling off period she tackled sobriety with a fierce determination. She has been sober for over three years now.

    But I digress …

Sending warm wishes your way in hopes that this will help banish the Polar vortex.

  2. Excellent interview Betty Jane. So many books to add to my “to be read, or re-read” list – thank you. Looking forward to your next collection of short stories!

  3. Hi Betty Jane,
Thank you so much for sending this link. I am slow responding because my computer was acting up – constant buffering made it almost impossible to hear. Now that is fixed and I just re-listened. I so admire how well you put your thoughts together and speak so well. A fun and witty interview yet you made so many subtle points putting in good words for under-appreciated western authors. I have made a list of the ones you mentioned.
Can’t wait to talk more over coffee about this.
    Joan
